About Us:

F&AM Incorporated, now doing business as Value-Added Food Sales, was established in 1996 when a group of Michigan Food Banks reached out to our food brokerage business asking for help purchasing better. Together, we quickly realized that a conventional, low-cost, hub and spoke model best suited their needs, however a low-cost wholesaler in the Michigan region did not yet exist.

Given our organization’s expertise within the grocery industry and our warehousing capabilities, Value-Added Food Sales was born. Since 1996 we have focused solely on serving non-profit hunger relief organizations and grew our business by listening and responding to their needs.

VAFS builds long lasting relationships with manufacturers, importers, and carriers throughout the U.S.  Our 30+ years of experience allow us to navigate the industry to negotiate on behalf of our customers and respond quickly to supply chain disruptions.

While supply side relationships are important, our focus on the non-profit, hunger relief sector gives us a broad perspective and deep experience with the tactics, strategies, and priorities in this unique market. VAFS nationwide network of full-service mixing centers offers a uniquely diverse and responsive option for wholesale purchasing needs, but we understand that sourcing is not simple.

Budget restrictions, timing, seasonality, funding, distribution methods, nutritional content and more can all play a role in deciding the best strategy for a purchase.  To meet customers’ needs, we offer both mixing center AND direct from manufacturer access, all day every day, for hundreds of items.
